Melody Wang
Chinese tutor
Hi, I’m Melody!
I am a professionally trained Mandarin teacher from China. I can provide English support during lessons and simple Japanese explanations for beginners when needed.
I hold a master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and the Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (CTCSOL). I have taught children, teenagers, university students, and adults through university courses and online one-to-one lessons. On a previous Chinese-learning platform, I received more than 300 student reviews, all at the platform’s highest rating.
Many learners know vocabulary and grammar but still find it difficult to use Mandarin naturally in real life. They may understand their teacher but feel nervous when speaking, or know many individual words but struggle to form clear and natural sentences.
My goal is to help students move beyond simply studying Mandarin and begin using it with greater confidence and ease.
My Teaching Approach
I do not use the same course plan for every student.
Before regular lessons begin, I learn about each student’s current level, goals, interests, available study time, and main difficulties. Based on this information, I create a realistic and personalised learning plan.
In class, I use images, short videos, listening materials, dialogues, role plays, and real-life tasks. Students have plenty of time to think, try, and speak, while I provide clear corrections and guidance without interrupting every attempt.
After class, I can provide key vocabulary, useful expressions, correction notes, and review suggestions to help students retain what they have learned.
Courses I Offer
Practical and Personalised Mandarin
Lessons are designed around students’ needs for daily life, travel, study, or work. Through situations such as ordering food, shopping, transportation, social communication, customer service, and workplace procedures, students can improve their listening, speaking, and natural expression.
Structured Mandarin and HSK Preparation
Students follow a goal-based plan to improve vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading, and speaking. Learners preparing for the HSK exam can also receive a focused study plan with clear stages and priorities.
Mandarin for Children and Teenagers
Young learners study through visual materials, stories, games, short videos, and interactive tasks. Lessons are adapted to the learner’s age and level, with a focus on basic communication, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, or HSK-related learning.
The First Lesson
During the first lesson, we will discuss the student’s learning background, assess their current level, clarify their short-term and long-term goals, and identify the areas that need the most improvement. I will then begin creating a personalised learning plan based on their needs.
Tell me why you are learning Mandarin and what you would most like to accomplish with it. Let’s turn Mandarin from something you study into a language you can truly use.
